Many of you have enjoyed our products and programs with gusto! We'd like to share ... Thanks to CIE and Mary Stewart Adams for the intriguing lecture held this semester (Nov 2011). My Children’s Literature class and I attended the lecture. I had been somewhat hesitant about giving up class time, but decided that we could fit this in to the multicultural literature project coming up. What surprised and delighted me was that there was so much in the lecture relating to stories, the stories we tell our selves and our children in order to make sense of the world. The calendars fitting a folk tale/fairy tale to a month are wonderful; I’m learning about many different fairy tales by perusing them. Thanks again, Mary, for sharing them with participants and for the special set of calendars that you gave to me. Thanks for increasing my awareness of the world...M Monteith I so enjoyed the speaker and realized how little I know about the world around me. I am very anti air pollution, and am now appalled at the misuse of lighting as well...I definitely do not appreciate the constellations and galaxies as much as I should...in fact, I should be in awe. I am going to look for these stars more and more, either by visiting the Dark Sky Park, or simply looking up at the dark morning sky on my brisk, before-the-sun rises runs. I loved this lecture, it was amazing to learn about histories of the calendars. I feel the Dark Sky Park is very important, our world is being horribly polluted by light and there are many ways we as individuals can contribute to helping decrease this. It was a very interesting lecture to listen to; she seemed to have a lot of insight. Student, NMC Dear Calendar Creators,
Dear Mary, Our gathering with you at the top of the hill under the glorious stars last night was one of our most unforgettable evenings in northern Michigan. Thank you for bringing us all together and for mesmerizing us with your beautiful voice, as you quoted poets and wise writers alike. Your grasp of science and literature and your brilliance in presenting both in such a sparkling, entertaining manner made our experience with you so memorable. We loved connecting with the stars and with the legends of the past, which still have meaning today. I am so glad that teachers and school children will continue to have the opportunity to experience your presentation in the months and years ahead, as so many adults and children today have lost their connection with nature and the glories of the cosmos. I wish you well in this important endeavor. Thank you again for your generosity in donating your time and talent to benefit See North and to give all of us present such a meaningful time together. Yes...new friends, for sure! Fondly, SB, Harbor Springs, Michigan
